HomeMy WebLinkAbout2014-11-12 PACKET 04.E.03October 20, 2014 Dear Cottage Grove Economic Development, I had learned in August of a possible hotel coming to the area to the Oakwood Park area. Recently I had heard some more information that this was being considered and it would be a hotel with 3 or 4 stories. Although it would be nice to have additional hotel accommodations in Cottage Grove I am not happy with the location that is being promoted. I think there are other property and locations that would serve that need, and one area of thought is just beyond the Tutor Time location along the frontage road. We are frequent listeners to outdoor performances and have watched outdoor plays here in Cottage Grove at Zion Lutheran with our own local performance theatre group. Going to Red Wing to listen to outdoor music is so wonderful with their outdoor stage band shell that I had found some information on it. I was hoping to see how our local Art Committee with the city would feel about doing a search for funding for something like this. The idea location I envisioned is the property you want to place the hotel. This location would allow an open space of the Park. We moved here 26 years ago and loved that park. It has changed a bit but still has its charm with the hill and that valley area. The open area before it compliments that space and with the Frisbee golf park and ball field makes this park frequently used. A three or even four story building in that location would just destroy that area. I have shared this information with several people and they are astonished to find out the thought that a hotel might be there. They do not want it there. One evening while heading over to Ruby Tuesdays a young woman was standing at the top of that hill, singing with great might for anyone to hear. It appeared I was her only audience. I applauded her and I also applaud that area. It is beautiful and a part of the history of this area, rich and filled with appreciation for the land that it is. A band shell would compliment that land use. A hotel will not. Please reconsider the placement of the hotel that is looking to build here. Thank you for your time and consideration.
