RE:
Climb Theatre Plays in Elementary School
Background
In the spring of 2014, the City worked with Climb Theatre Company to put on recycling plays at
three of the elementary schools in Cottage Grove. Climb Theatre is a touring educational thea-
ter based out of the Twin Cities who performs for schools and other organizations throughout
the Upper Midwest. Last year two different plays were performed, one for grades K-2 and one
for grades 3-5. These performances were very well received by both the students and
teachers, so once again this year the City is working with Climb Theatre to perform at the
elementary schools.
Discussion
In 2015, Climb Theatre has a play titled “Toadily Turtle” available that focuses on protection
and conservation of water resources. This play is geared towards grades K-2. Currently,
performances have been scheduled at all six elementary schools in Cottage Grove. Below is a
schedule of the performances.
School Performance Date
Pine Hill Elementary March 4, 2015
Hillside Elementary March 4, 2015
Crestview Elementary/Nuevas Fronteras March 5, 2015
Grey Cloud Elementary March 5, 2015
Armstrong Elementary March 20, 2015
Cottage Grove Elementary April, 10, 2015
In total, around 1,325 students will be attending the play between the six elementary schools.
Similar to last year, the City will have a handout available once the play is complete. This year
we plan to give out a coloring book focused on water conservation as well as crayons to go
along with the coloring book. City staff will attend each of the performances in order to give the
handouts to the students.
