The EDA has sponsored a wonderful golf tournament in the past and we hope to put together an even better event this year with your support. Wolfe, Assistant City Administrator Date: 03/09/01 Re: Business Retention—Training Program Item 4G The EDA's goals have always included business retention efforts. In that regard, we participate in Chamber events and functions, visit local manufacturing businesses, and promote new and existing businesses on our cable show. A new endeavor I am working on is a joint project with Community Education at SD 833. • This project arose after a Chamber Business luncheon last fall, when Community Education staff presented to the attendees. There was significant interest in developing training programs for local businesses. Specifically there was interest in training that could be held locally and at reasonable cost. The area most seemed interested in was "soft skills" such as customer service and dealing with people. I have been working with Gretchen Carlson on this idea. She has developed a survey that we would like to send out with the next Chamber newsletter. In addition, I have been meeting with a group of HR representatives from the larger employers in the Cottage Grove area (i.e. the school district, 3M, Renewal, Up North Plastics, Ashland Marathon.) This group will be consulted in April as to their input on design of a training program. As we progress with our plans, I will keep you up to date. • F:\GROUPS\PER_ECON\Economic Development\EDA Memos\2001WIar 01 Training.doc City of Cottage Grove • Memo To: Economic Development Authority Members !
