AUTHORITY
MINUTES
JANUARY 9, 2001
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a regular meeting of the Economic Development Authority was
held at City Hall, 7516 80th Street South, Cottage Grove, Minnesota on the 9th day of January 2001.
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 a.m. by Mayor Shiely.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Kleven moved to approve the December 12, 2000 Economic Development Authority Minutes.
Weingartner seconded. Motion carried unanimously.
PUBLIC HEARING: BUSINESS SUBSIDIES FOR ADVANCE CORPORATION
Schroeder said that public hearing notices for both Advance and Tradehome business subsidies
had been published, and that the business subsidies had already been approved by the City
Council. Shiely opened the public hearing. No one spoke at the public hearing. Shiely closed the
public hearing. Schroeder explained the proposal for Advance Corporation and stated that a
resolution should be adopted in order to approve the business subsidy. It was noted that there are
certain job provisions required by state statute in regard to authorizing business subsidies.
Wolcott moved to approve the business subsidy resolution for Advance Corporation. Pederson
seconded. Motion carried unanimously.
PUBLIC HEARING: BUSINESS SUBSIDIES FOR TRADEHOME SHOES
• Shiely opened the public hearing. No one spoke at the public hearing. Shiely closed the public
hearing. Schroeder said some of the subsidy would need to go into the sewer extension and
regional ponding. Pederson moved to adopt the resolution authorizing business subsidies for

Tradehome Shoes. Weingartner seconded. Motion carried unanimously. Schroeder commented
that there are still some issues with the exterior building materials for this project. Wolcott
expressed his interest in maintaining a high standard for building appearances, and Schroeder
noted that they would be touring facilities with the proposed material later this week.
PROJECT UPDATES
Schroeder outlined the various active projects listed in the packet, including manufacturing,
warehousing, and retail proposals. Possible changes at a local shopping center were discussed,
as well as a new hotel and restaurant facility proposed for a site formerly owned by the school
district. Possible changes at the marshalling yard site were also discussed.
2001 ANNUAL BUSINESS BREAKFAST
Wolfe said that the business breakfast was being planned for the end of the month. Speakers had
been confirmed, but the agenda still needed to be put together. Pederson suggested that some of
the different development projects should be presented at the breakfast, and representatives from
these projects should be invited to attend; he felt that would help send a more positive message
about what is taking place in the community. Schroeder replied that any representatives who
attend could be recognized at the event. The date for the breakfast will be January 29 at 3M
Center.
EDA AND STAFF VACANCIES •
Wolfe said that Shannon Green had resigned. A manager from Renewal by Andersen had
expressed an interest in an appointment to the EDA. Another application had been received, and
a representative from Advance Corporation was also discussed as possibilities for the vacancy.
Consensus was to table further consideration for the EDA vacancy until the next meeting.
ELECTION OF EDA OFFICERS
Kleven moved to table election of EDA officers until the February meeting. Weingartner seconded.
Motion carried unanimously.
MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS
A retirement party for former Mayor Jack Denzer would take place on February 17 at River Oaks
Golf Course. There will be a social hour from 5:00-6:30, dinner from 6:30- 7:30, and the program
from 7:30 on.
ADJOURN
Pederson moved to adjourn. Kleven seconded. Motion carried unanimously.
