7. PUBLIC WORKS UPDATE
Gary Orloff gave an update on the Street Department. Street sweeping went really
well once the rain stopped. Streets picked up about 1200 yards of material. They are
now into street patching and making signs for Spring Clean Up Day. Road restrictions
come off Wednesday, April 22nd. The Shop has everything up to date and ready to go for
spring and summer, sweepers and dump trunks. New dump trucks are not here, but are
almost completed. The 1 ton truck is here. They are starting to build the storm water
truck, a 1 ton with a utility box in the box. Sod day is May 20th, will be taking care of any
plow damage. There were roughly 100 trees taken out, stumps will be removed, dirt filled
in and hydro seeded, around the second week of May. A discussion was had on the new
trees on 80th St. along with other areas and other beautification projects. Rick Alt says
pavement management starts this week. Last year a half dozen valves behind Cub on
91st St. were corroded. There are 12 locations the contractor will be digging and replacing
bolts. There was only one freeze up this winter, on a newer construction home, not the
City’s fault. Not one main or resident freeze up this year. Utilities are on Zone 3 of
flushing, should be done by Thursday. The big project now is pavement management.
Lots of work going on at Woodridge Park tearing down building and putting up a new one,
water, sewer and storm work, and the parking lot will be refigured.
8. ENGINEER’s REPORT
None
9. CITY COUNCIL UPDATE
Steve Dennis talked about 80th Street, how do we want to recoat this? There was
a presentation two meetings ago looking at Concrete (30 year) versus Bituminous Asphalt
(15 year), difference was only a couple million dollars. Good reports coming out of The
Business Park, a couple of companies expanding, creating about 400 more jobs,
American Logics, Werner Electric, and Anderson Windows. More additional employees
may contribute to more restaurants, better economic development. As far as the City
Administrator, Council will interview 3 search firms to help locate and find candidates.
They are looking at September to November for new administrator. Will be an interim until
then, Council will look at internal and external candidates. Tomorrow night is the
volunteer recognition dinner at River Oaks. Thank you to the Commission for the time
you have put in. He opened it up for questions…a Commissioner asked about 80th street,
is there talk of widening road? There has been lot of money spent on feasibility studies
regarding this. There was another discussion of concrete versus bituminous asphalt.
Home Depot and Cub Foods area, negotiations are going on. Ryan has 41 days left and
he is trying hard to get this completed before he goes.

Commissioner Dornsbach commented on wanting to try to get the Commission
meetings back here at the Public Works Building. He feels people are more comfortable
