INEFFICENCY
Waste is
A business paysfor a product, paysto collect the
product, paysto dispose of left-over product and
paysa tax on the disposal cost.
Value of materials thrown away in 2014, if it
had been recycled=
$25,000,000
Why recycle?
New recycling legislation impacts almost all metro county
commercial businesses starting January 1, 2016
“Businesses that contract for 4 or more cubic yards
of solid waste collection must collect at least 3
recyclable materials (e.g. Paper, glass, metal,
organics, etc.)”
How large is 4 cubic yards?

The CEC (County Environmental Charge)
•
provides financial incentive to recycle more.

–
customers. It’s based on the amount of trash a
business produces.
