Subject: REQUEST AUTHORIZATION TO ACCEPT GRANT AWARD
Recently the Minnesota Department of Public Safety's Office of Traffic Safety had a grant
opportunity of a 50% matching grant for new squad computers. This is part of the Minnesota
Toward Zero Death (TZD) traffic safety program.
As a participant of the TZD program, Cottage Grove had the opportunity to be considered for
the 50% matching grant. The funds could be used for squad computers, docking stations, and
printers. The grant was specifically for vehicles that were not previously outfitted with
computers. The department had budgeted for 5 computers.
The grant will assist us in the cost of outfitting 3 (three) squads. The costs for three computers,
docking stations, and printers (through the required State contract) came to $14,943. The
police department was awarded the amount of$7,471.50 (half the cost).
Recommendation
Accept the grant award in the amount of$7,471.50 from the Minnesota Department of Public
Safety's Office of Traffic Safety. The city will be required to equally match the dollar amount
(which was approved in the budget).
