Memo To: Honorable Mayor and City Council From: Craig Woolery, Director of Public Safety Date: March 9, 2016 Subject: REQUEST AUTHORIZATION TO ACCEPT A DONATION OF PBT'S Cottage Grove Public Safety has being involved in the Minnesota Toward Zero Death (TZD) traffic safety program. The TZD program employees an interdisciplinary approach to reducing traffic crashes, injuries, and deaths on Minnesota Roads. While individual disciplines have a long history of successful traffic safety programs, TZD aims to tie these together with a common vision and mission for even greater success. The TZD program is through the Minnesota Department of Public Safety's Office of Traffic Safety. As a participant of the TZD program, Cottage Grove had the opportunity to be considered for equipment. The Office of Traffic Safety had an equipment grant available. Sgt Mike Coffey, who coordinates our TZD efforts, did submit our interest in being considered for two preliminary breath test (PBT's) value at $600 per unit. Our department was awarded two Alco-Sensor IV PBT's. Recommendation Accept the two Alco-Sensor IV PBT's (value $1200) awarded to Cottage Grove Public Safety by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety's Office of Traffic Safety.
