There were a total of four bids received, with the low bid submitted by Pember Companies, Inc. in the amount of $660,228.45. This compares to the engineer's estimate of $496,612. The project also included a bid alternate, which Pember Companies submitted a bid in the amount of $148,721.50. The engineer's estimate for the bid alternate was $125,000. The attached bid award letter and bid tab from WSB & Associates provides further details on the bids received. Discussion The bid alternate included nine pairs of stone columns with decorative fence, which would be located adjacent to the right-of-way along 80th Street and Hadley Avenue. They include two 3- foot by 3-foot stone columns with 16.5 feet of decorative fence in between. Attached with this memo is an exhibit providing further details related to the bid alternate. Sheet L3.0 highlights the location of the nine column/fence combinations and also includes a detail of the design. Sheets L3.1 to L3.3 provide a more detailed view of the location of the nine column/fence combinations on the three corners of the intersection. With a total bid alter- nate of $148,721.50, this amounts to approximately $16,525 per column/fence combination. There were a total of four (4) bids submitted, which were opened and read aloud. The bids were checked for mathematical accuracy and tabulated. The tabulation is attached for your reference and includes corrections to any mathematical errors. Should Council also wish to award the bid alternate, it would not change the low bidder and the Adjusted Total Base Bid amount would be$808,949.95. IN THE AMOUNT OF $808,949.95 (BASE BID OF $660,228.45 AND BID ALTERNATE NO. 1 IN THE AMOUNT OF $148,721.50) WHEREAS, plans and specifications for the 80th Street Quadrant Project were completed according to City standards; and WHEREAS, bids were requested to provide the necessary work; and WHEREAS, there was one alternate as part of the bid package for the project. Bid Alternate No. 1 consists of nine pairs of stone columns with ornamental fencing adjacent to the road right-of-way; and WHEREAS, four firms submitted bids; and WHEREAS, it appears that Pember Companies, Inc. is the lowest responsible bid; and WHEREAS, it is the recommendation of the City Engineer that the bid be awarded to Pember Companies, Inc. in the amount of $808,949.95, which includes Bid Alternate No. 1 (Base Bid of $660,228.45 and Bid Alternate No. 1 of $148,721.50).
