Burbank, Senior Planner DATE: July 8, 2016 RE: 80th Street Quadrant Improvement Project — Part II Introduction At the last ACHP meeting, the subject of historic signage design for the 80th Street Quadrant Improvement Project was discussed. The ACHP has been asked to identify content topics for four historic signs that will be installed as a part of the 80th Street Quadrant. Topics that were identified were: • John Sullivan Norris • Early farm/farmer history — Baileys, Woodwards, etc. • Early suburban history • Prehistory/geologic information • History snapshots — first stoplight, airports, railroad, Atkinson's Corners, Spring Hill School, Camels Hump, Belden Commercial District • 1837 Treaty • "Center of town" evolution Discussion Given the name of the plaza is James Norris Square, it would seem important that one of the signs be dedicated to information on the history of Mr. Norris. The ACHP should identify three other main or joint topics for the remaining signs. One suggestion was revolving sign information; however, current budgets do not support that course of action, but perhaps that can be a future topic and budget item. Recommendation That the ACHP should identify three other main or joint topics for the remaining signs for inclusion in the 80th Street Quadrant Improvement Project.
