Memo from N. Belscamper – 7/12/2016
Draft Resolution and Map
To: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
From: Neil Belscamper, Deputy City Clerk
Date: July 12, 2016
Subject: Residential Solid Waste and Recycling Daily Collection Districts
Background
At the July 6, 2016 Regular City Council Meeting, the City Council passed Ordinance 964
amending the City Code relating to Solid Waste and Recycling. Both the previous and the
amended City Code chapters specify that residential daily collection districts be established by
Council resolution. The Public Works Department located the daily collection district map dated
May 2002 but as we have been unable to determine whether this was actually adopted by
Council resolution we are asking Council to do so now.
Staff Recommendation
Adopt the resolution establishing residential daily collection districts for mixed municipal solid
waste and recyclable materials, superseding any previous actions to establish such districts.
RESOLUTION NO. 2016-XX
ESTABLISHING RESIDENTIAL DAILY COLLECTION DISTRICTS FOR MIXED
MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE AND RECYCLABLE MATERIALS
WHEREAS, the City of Cottage Grove regulates the collection of Mixed
Municipal Solid Waste and Recyclable Materials; and
WHEREAS, the City of Cottage Grove has determined that it is in the
public interest to preserve neighborhood aesthetics and promote efficient
collection of such materials in residential neighborhoods;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the City Council of the City of
Cottage Grove, County of Washington, State of Minnesota, hereby establishes
specific day-of-the-week geographic districts for the collection of residential
mixed municipal solid waste and recyclable materials as outlined in the
attachment “Residential Mixed Municipal Solid Waste and Recyclable Materials
Daily Collection Districts” with an effective date of July 21, 2016 superseding any
previous actions to establish such districts.
Passed this 20th day of July 2016.
