MICHAEL PENDANTS FROM AREA BUSINESSES Introduction To show their appreciation for the services of the men and women of the Cottage Grove Police Department, Christine Selvig of Selvig Jewelers, located in Cottage Grove, worked with several local businesses in order to raise funds to purchase (42) forty two St. Michael pendants and donate them to the City of Cottage Grove. The donors wish is to have the city in turn give one pendant to each of the Cottage Grove's forty one (41) sworn police officers and one for the departments K9, Gunnar. Discussion In the wake of several tragic shooting events occurring across the country and in Minnesota the law enforcement profession has been under tremendous strain. As a result the outpouring of support for the officers of the Cottage Grove Police Department has been tremendous. Christine Selvig of Selvig Jewelers initiated a fund raising effort with local Cottage Grove area businesses to purchase each sworn police officer and the department's K9 a St. Michael pendant. The following businesses raised $1,900.00 and wish to donate the pendants to the City of Cottage Grove: Rocco's Pizza, Oasis Chiropractic, Bonngards Family Meats, Dennis Brothers Liquor, Historic John P. Furber Farm Wedding & Event Center, Edwards Plumbing, Subway on County Rd 19 & 70th, Beiter Eye Clinic, RSI Insurance, Cottage Grove Lions, Cottage Grove Public Safety Board, Hope Glenn Farm, Kok Funeral Home, and Optimal Health & PerFormance, Old Tyme Fudge & Ice Cream, The Healing Place and Park Grove Animal Hospital and Selvig's jewelry supplier, Stuller, Inc. who gave 20 % off the pendants/chains. In turn, the donors wish the pendants be given to each officer and one for K9 Gunnar. In accordance with MN Statute 471.895 and the League of MN Cities guidelines, Cities may accept gifts of real or personal property and use them in accordance with the terms prescribed by the donor. A resolution accepting the gift and the donor's terms must receive an affirmative vote of two thirds of the members of the council. Recommendation Request approval of the resolution accepting the donation of (42) St. Michael pendants valued at $1900.00. In turn, per the request of the donors, issue one pendant to each of the (41) Cottage Grove sworn police officers and (1) pendant to K9 Gunnar. RESOLUTION NO. 2016-[Resolution Number] RESOLUTION ACCEPTING DONATION OF 42 ST. MICHAEL PENDANTS/CHAINS TO THE COTTAGE GROVE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO BE GIVEN TO EACH COTTAGE GROVE SWORN OFFICER WHEREAS, in support of the Cottage Grove Police Department, Selvig Jewelers and local area businesses, wish to donate 42 St. Michael pendants/ chains at a total cost of$1,900.00, and WHEREAS, the businesses all split the purchase of the 42 pendants/chains at a cost of$1,900.00. The businesses that contributed are Rocco's Pizza, Oasis Chiropractic, Bonngards Family Meats, Dennis Brothers Liquor, Historic John P. Furber Farm Wedding & Event Ctr, Edwards Plumbing, Subway on County Rd 19 & 70th, Beiter Eye Clinic, RSI Insurance, Cottage Grove Lions, Cottage Grove Public Safety Board, Hope Glenn Farm, Kok Funeral Home, and Optimal Health & Performance, Old Tyme Fudge & Ice Cream, The Healing Place, Park Grove Animal Hospital, Selvig Jewelers and the jewelry supplier, Stuller, Inc. who gave 20 % off the cost of the pendants/chains. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Cottage Grove, County of Washington, State of Minnesota, hereby accept, on behalf of the Department of Public Safety, Police Division, the donation of 42 St. Michael pendants/chains to be given to each Cottage Grove sworn officer.
