Activites that have taken place in the community that may have a potential impact on economic
development activity:
Discussion Staff Action
3M Annual Business 3M hosted there annual business breakfast. The speaker for
Breakfast, March 21, 2017 the event was Supervisory Special Agent Patricia Weber from
the Minneapolis Division of the FBI. Agent Weber spoke on
white collar crime and protecting your business.
BR&E Interview, March 22, Economic Development Director Costello along with a member
2017 of the BR&E Taskforce interviewed Health Partners.
BR&E Interview, March 24, Economic Development Director Costello along with a member
2017 of the BR&E Taskforce interviewed Metro Dentalcare.
East Metro Strong Attended the monthly meeting in which the bus route
meeting, March 27, 2017 realignment for the St. Paul was discussed and vacancy of co-
chair position.
BR&E Interview, March 28, Economic Development Director Costello and Economic
2017 Development Assistant Wolf interviewed Country Inn & Suites.
Responded to Business Broker contacted staff with interest in a 3.5 acre city-owned
Park Interest, March 31, parcel in the Business Park for his client (contractor business).
2017 The cost of the site was provided to the broker and they will let
the City know if they would like to move forward with a potential
sale.
Business Update, March Whole Health Chiropractic, located at 8800 East Point Douglas
31, 2017 Road, Suite 500 currently has two businesses located in the
space; Whole Health Massage and Whole Health Chiropractic.
The chiropractic business will be moving into the former Old
Tyme Fudge & Ice Cream space (Suite 800). The massage
business will stay in the existing space; each business is
expanding and they now need more space. The chiropractic
business has pulled a building permit for Suite 800 and it is
currently under plan review.
Cottage Grove As part of our relationship with Washington County Community
advertisement, March Development Authority (CDA) we received free advertising of
2017 the community in the latest issue of the Minnesota Real Estate
Journal. This is a monthly commercial real estate trade journal
for real estate professionals that has 15,000 monthly readers
and 5,000 subscribers. Our advertisement appeared in the
March 2017 (page attached). We will have additional
opportunities to advertise again in this journal

Presentation to Potential In September 2016, the City of Cottage Grove responded to a
Business Park End-User, Request for Proposal (RFP) from GreaterMSP for a
April 4, 2017 manufacturing company looking for a site that was 35 to 60
acres. We responded to the request with a 50 acre in the
Business Park. Cottage Grove is one of three communities in
the State of Minnesota that the company visited. The proposed
company would be a manufacturing company. Based on the
information we were given by GreaterMSP on the company
and following their prescribed outline; staff prepared maps of
the site, utility information, and demographics on the
community. The company is visiting other States. The
company will reach out to us if there are any follow-up
materials needed.
Business Update, April 4, Payless ShoeSource announced they were closing 400 stores
2017 in the United States due as part of their bankruptcy protection
plan. Unfortunately this includes the closing of Payless in
Cottage Grove. Once a broker has been identified for the site
staff will begin to market the location to potential new end-
users that have expressed interest in being located in Cottage
Grove. The property is zoned B-3, General Business.
Restaurant uses with a drive-up window require a conditional
use permit (CUP) and restaurants that do not have a drive-up
window are a permitted use in this zoning district. As of May
3rd they are still open and selling inventory.
Washington County Econ. Attended the monthly work group that is working to establish an
Development Work Group, economic development plan for the County. Discussed the
April 5, 2017 image of Washington County and how it could be marketed to
the real estate community.
Ribbon Cutting, April 8, National Tire and Battery (NTB) located 8647 East Point
2017 Douglas Road South held a ribbon cutting for their grand
opening.
Chamber Board meeting, The Chamber Board held there monthly meeting and discussed
April 13, 2017 the upcoming Business Showcase.
Meeting with the University Met with consultant from the University of Minnesota to review
of Minnesota, April 13, the initial results of the BR&E surveys. Members of University
2017 staff and State Demographer were in attendance to provide
feedback on what they saw in the results.
In A Snap taping, April 17, Taped the May episode of In A Snap that provides a status
2017 update on Junction 70 Grill, Carbone’s, Bella Pizza, and an
update on the BR&E.
BR&E “Red Flag” Review The Leadership Team and members of the Taskforce were
Session, April 18, 2017 invited to review the completed surveys to determine if there
were any issues that needed immediate attention to resolve. It
was determined that there were no immediate concerns.
Chamber’s Business Economic Development had a booth at the showcase and

expansion.
Meeting on the City’s Met with member of the Community Development Department
Comprehensive Plan staff and the consultant for the Comprehensive Plan to review
update, April 24, 2017 the goals and policies which will include economic
development goals; previous plan did not include economic
development goals.
Presentation at 13 th Annual MN Real Estate Journal held the land development summit and
Land Development Economic Development Director Costello was asked to be a
Summit, May 5, 2017 panelist. Ms. Costello promoted the Business Park and the
Shoppes at Cottage View area.
