Date: March 27, 2018
Subject: Open Eye Theatre Driveway Tour
Introduction
Chair Kovarik is working with resident Ashley Schwartz to schedule a performance by the OpenEye
Theatre for their 2018 summer Driveway Tour (website: http://www.openeyetheatre.org/). OpenEye
Theatre is a South Minneapolis based theater company with a mission of bringing communities
together with family -friendly theatre.
The traveling troupe performs outdoors in parks, on driveways, etc. and all shows are free to attendees
and open to all. Requirements of hosting a show is a 10'X12' outdoor performing space, audience
space for at least 75 attendees, a rain location, and willingness to provide light refreshments.
Last year, it was proposed that the Arts Commission do the "Producer Hat" show. The Arts
Commission would agree to raise at least $300 for OpenEye Theatre. They would pass a hat at the
show to collect donations, which averaged $150 last year. As a host, the Arts Commission would
commit to paying the difference, which in this case is anticipated to be $150.
Schwartz has submitted the application for a Producer Hat show with the first choice of dates being
July 9, the second choice being July 11, and the third choice being July 12. The City Hall Amphitheatre
is scheduled for this event on all three dates. Once a final date is confirmed, the other two dates will
be released back to the City.
