RE: John P. Furber Barn – 2018 Site Modification HPCUP
Introduction
Wayne and Angi Butt have requested a modification of their existing Historic Places Conditional
Use Permit (HPCUP) for the Historic John P. Furber Wedding and Event Center. The requested
action includes a second driveway, a pole building restoration, and landscaping Improvements.
Location Map
Background
In 2013, a Historic Places Conditional Use Permit was issued to the property, which allowed for the
site to be utilized as a wedding and event center. Per the HPCUP, the barn was also placed on the
City’s Register of Historic Sites and Landmarks. This HPCUP has been modified several times as
their understandings of the operation of the facility have matured and related site and building im-
provements were proposed, approved, and completed.
Discussion
The applicants have included a narrative of their plans for the site and a draft site plan, which is
shown below.

Description of Proposal:
Wayne and Angela Butt, 7310 Lamar Avenue South, Cottage Grove, MN
We purchased the farmstead property AS-IS in February of 2010. Prior to purchasing the property we
wanted to make sure that we would be able to fix up the 1850’s Italianate house that is on the historical
registry. We met with the City’s Advisory Committee on Historic Preservation along with John Burbank;
we presented them with our proposed plans for the house, and they were approved by the City Council
in early 2010.
We have decided to hire a landscape architect to design our future state of the property. We think you
will like the Master Plan as much as we do. We look forward to thoughts, comments and suggestions.
Thank you very much!
