Arts Commission Meeting
JUNE 4, 2019
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a Cottage Grove Arts Commission Meeting was held on June
4, 2019.
1) CALL TO ORDER
a) Meeting called to order at 7:06 p.m.
2) ROLL CALL
a) Members Present: Barbara Forthun, Joe Kovarik, Joe Filipovich, Hailey Trzebiatowski,
Melissa Soto, Cathie Roering, Marla Lutchen
b) Members Absent: Jennifer Cheesman
c) Others Present: La Rae Mills, City Council, Molly Pietruszewski, Recreation Services
Manager, Jennifer Levitt, City Administrator, Scott Seroka, Communications Manager, Chris
Hetland, Management Assistant
3) WORKSHOP
a) 2020/2021 Work Plan, Budget, Event Implementation, Marketing Plan (documents attached)
i) A brainstorming session on direction and future of the Arts Commission took place.
ii) Strategy #1: Promote and Publicize, goal 2 was changed to Increase community
involvement in and at city sponsored art events.
iii) A presentation by the Communications Manager was given
iv) Strategy #3: Facilities, goal 2 was changed to public art on display in city spaces
v) Event Implementation and Event Marketing Plan was approved
b) Open Mic

i) Dates – June 19, July 10 and August 21 at Kingston Park. This event is moving forward.
c) Path to Poetry
i) The Commission acknowledged the Path to Poetry will move forward.
d) Strawberry Fest Chalk Walk
i) The Art Commission will be offering the chalk walk during Strawberry Fest at Kingston Park
on Friday June 14, 2019.
e) Summer Concert Series
i) The Arts Commission will be having Summer Concerts on June 20 at 6:30pm at City Hall
Amphitheatre with the South Washington County Community Band, on July 11 at 6:30pm at
Hamlet Park with the Red Rock Swing Band, and on August 8 at 6:30pm at Peter
Thompson Park by Dance By Kris Studio.
f) Public Art on Display
i) Presented and recommended for approval
