City of Cottage Grove
Arts Commission Workshop
October 1, 2019
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a Cottage Grove Arts Commission Meeting was held on
October 1, 2019.
1) CALL TO ORDER
a) Workshop called to order at 7:00pm
2) ROLL CALL
a) Members Present: Barbara Forthun, Joe Kovarik, Jennifer Cheesman, Joe Filipovich, , Hailey
Trzebiatowski, Cathie Roering, Marla Lutchen
b) Members Absent: Melissa Soto
c) Others Present: La Rae Mills, City Council, Chris Hetland, Management Assistant
3) WORKSHOP
a) Public Art on Display
i) Chris Hetland provided an update. Four artists submitted artwork that was approved by the
Commission. The artists work will be placed on conference room walls from November-
April and the artists will be acknowledged at the November 12th meeting.
b) Holiday Train – Festival of Wreaths
i) Commissioner Kovarik provided an update. 30 wreaths have been donated from the VFW.
The VFW bought them from two boy scout troops. 6 wreaths have been sold. The wreaths
will be stored and distributed by Molly Pietruszewski. The poster was designed by
Commissioner Cheesman and sent to Communications Manager Seroka for approval.
c) Artist of the Month Chair
i) Commissioner Kovarik discussed the need and benefits of having someone take on the
position of Artist of the Month Chair. Commissioner Lutchen nominated herself.
Requirements for artist of the month were discussed.

4) Commission Comments
a) Benefits of working with the Tourism Bureau was discussed by the Commission.
Attendance of nearby art festivals and marketing were also discussed.
5) Council Comments
a) City Council Member Mills discussed Las Margaritas moving, continued growth in
Cottage Grove, Zywiec’s for Halloween, CIP projects, and the preliminary tax levy.
6) ADJOURNMENT
a) Meeting adjourned at 8:15pm
