Burbank, Senior Planner DATE: March 4, 2020 RE: Historic Preservationist of the Year Introduction The ACHP annually nominates a person or organization who goes above and beyond to promote an aspect of Cottage Grove's history that helps to share our understanding and general knowledge of the people and places of our past. Discussion In preparation for the May 6 City Council meeting, it is time to solicit nominations for the 2020 Historic Preservationist of the Year. The ACHP is requested to review the attached list of previous recipients of this distinction for additional reference. Recommendation Review, discuss, and suggest nominations for the 2020 Historic Preservationist of the Year. Furber Wedding and Event Center allowing for its continued existence as a unique component of the historic fabric of the community. 2017 Brent Peterson Executive Director, In recognition of his previous and Washington County continuing efforts to document, preserve, Historical Society and share the interesting past history of Washington County, Cottage Grove, and surrounding communities. 2018 Dodge Nature Shepard Farm In recognition of their previous and Center 9020-9038 70th Street continuing efforts South to document, preserve, and share the interesting history of Shepard Farm with the public and to establish an adaptive reuse of the property as an environmental/agricultural education center. -2- 2019 Dave Labno Amateur outhouse In recognition of their efforts to share the Brandon Lewanski Archeology art of historic outhouse archeology with the owners of the Historic Dr. Arthur Steen House known as "Forest Home" and the City of Cottage Grove. -3-
