HomeMy WebLinkAbout4.1 Economic Development Update/Business Inquiry Business/ Inquiry To: Honorable Mayor Bailey and EDA Members From: Christine Costello, Economic Development Director Date: November 30, 2020 Activites that have taken place in the community that may have a potential impact on economic development activity: Discussion Staff Action Meeting with Gene ED Director Costello and Engineering Consultant Mike Boex Smallidge, November 10, from Bolton & Menk met with Mr. Smallidge to discuss where 2020 soil borings could take place the on farmland that he owns th south of 100 Street as part of the sanitary sewer extension project to serve the area. Staff Sub-Committee Meeting Staff members of the CGCVB met to review the marketing of the Convention and plan and each respective staff members market segment. Visitors Bureau, November 17, 2020 Chamber Board Meeting, Councilmember and Liaison to the Chamber Dennis and ED November 19, 2020 Director Costello attended the Chamber Board meeting Councilmember Dennis provided an update on Council, EDA, and various City activities. Cottage Grove Convention Councilmember Dennis and Olsen as well as Chamber and Visitors Bureau Meeting, Executive Director Levine, Assistant to the City Administrator November 24, 2020 Wolf, and two members of the business community make up the Board. The agenda included review of the Washington County Grant received, Third quarter lodging tax revenue, 2021 final budget and marketing plan approval and review of the proposed website. State Webinar on COVID-19 ED Director Costello listened to the session in which State Economic Relief Package, elected officials heard from businesses to ensure they can December 1, 2020 advocate for what they need. They reviewed what's being discussed in MN's relief package and provided an opportunity for businesses to give feedback to their State elected officials. Third Trimester Minnesota ED Director Costello listened to the third trimester webinar Marketing Partnership where the proposed updated marketing for the group was th Webinar, December 4, 2020 reviewed. It will launch on January 4and can be linked on the City’s webpage. In addition business development approaches for 2021 were discussed. Washington County ED Director Costello listened to the webinar in which ED Economic Development Work staff from communities in Washington County discussed Group Webinar, December 4, CARES Act funding summary results, reviewed potential 2020 2021 marketing strategies and also share some updates on potential new (and old) economic development initiatives.
