Home My WebLink About2021-02-09 PACKET 06.C.June 14, 2018 Introduction My family moved from Grand Rapids, Mn. to Cottage Grove, Mn. In 1965. My parents purchased a home to be built @ 1552 Poe Street —later to become 8258 Homestead Avenue South. The purchase price was $17,500. 1 had the biggest and best back yard in town for many years —The Cross Hill —what great memories. attended Crestview, Hillside, Park Jr. High, and Park Sr. High. I left the Grove for good in 1977 as I ventured out on my own to conquer the World. My immediate family remains in the St. Paul — Mpls. metro. This has allowed me frequent visits back to the area. Each time I visit I find myself seeking out a location, or two, so that I may return home with more fond memories of those years long -past. No, I don't want them back— being a teenager almost killed me the first time. The changing of the Cottage Grove street names was a big deal when it took place. Many residents were not happy about it —or maybe it was just us kids! As the years passed, I often sought to learn more about the name change, and other history I may have missed, or misunderstood at the time. Coming into the online -information age I found myself repeatedly frustrated and seldom able to find what I was looking for regarding the beforementioned. Finally, I had had enough. First and foremost, let me state that this was a project of selfish indulgence —I did it for me. Now that I have completed this journey however, it is my hope that any individual looking for this same information may somehow locate this project and find herein that which they seek. I strived for accuracy, but I submit that errors will likely be brought to my attention. Good! If you find such errors, or see something of significant interest that I missed, please let me know.
