HomeMy WebLinkAbout2021-02-09 PACKET 05.D.Request to use Barn for Lodging 2020 has been a really rough year financially for our event business due to Covid 19 and the barn sat empty for months. Sadly, we are also facing a substantial loss of income in 2021 due to the many wedding dates we gave away for free rescheduling 2020 weddings. In addition, the future for all of us in the event industry is uncertain.. In an attempt to stay in business and to make our barn useful when we can't have events, we are requesting the opportunity to rent out the barn as a vacation rental. We would simply add a shower to the bathroom and improve the existing kitchen. When the barn is used for lodging, we would bring in a couch, chairs, television, tables, lamps, a dining table, two queen beds, night stands, and wall art, etc. Then in preparation for an event, the furniture and furnishings would be removed and put in storage. We have staff to help with the transition as well if needed. During our wedding events, we know that the brides and grooms will love the improved kitchen and bathroom as well! We will run this vacation rental professionally as we have a great track record with the Treehouse and the Corn Crib Cottage rentals since 2015 and 2016. We have experience in marketing vacation rentals and we think there will be great interest in staying in the new Barn Villa. We plan to create a beautiful and unique stay for our guests. This new vacation rental could be a popular addition to Cottage Grove Area tourism bringing income to the area restaurants, stores, gas stations, etc. Additional funds would come to the City thru the Lodging Tax. Also, local jobs would be created for cleaning staff and set up crew. We have spoken to Eric Jenson at Washington County and he looks forward to working with us on this lodging unit. He provided us with the list of requirements (which we are very familiar with) and everything is very doable for us. Eric said he will come and inspect when we are done and that it would be no problem to add the barn to our license. We are very grateful for the City of Cottage Grove because it's been a great place to live, work and have a business. We hope you will consider working with in this attempt evolve, to stay in business and to allow us to make our barn useful and not sit empty in these difficult and uncertain times. r--- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- i CLOSET i EGIRE WqW BEDROOM I I — — — — - — - — ------ — — - — - — — — ®— — — — EVENT SPACE O Bedroom furnishings e pres'ent for lodging LOADS ARE TRANSFERRED and ren—d for events TO STRUCTURE IN BASEMEN F --- V° I -- I ACCESSIB KITCHEN E E ' CCE TH STaLE BEDROOM U U R LL IN S OW ER WARDROBE EGRESS DOOR `--------------- 3'-0" DOOR NO LATCHES CLOSER COVERED PORCH 3'-D" DOOR NO LATCHES 9 j CLOSER 1 GROUND FLOOR PLAN S1.1 Scale: 1/8" = 1'-0" STRUCTURAL NOTE: MAIN FLOOR LEVEL OF BARN AND LOFT ARE STRUCTURALLY SOUND SHEETINDEX S1.1 BARN LODGING LAYOUT S2.1 LOFT LODGING LAYOUT CODE REVIEW PROJECT TITLE: "HOPE GLEN FARM" CODE ANALYSIS & STRUCTURALUPGRADES ADDRESS 10276 E Point Douglas Rd.
