Activites that have taken place in the community that may have a potential impact on economic
development activity:
Discussion Staff Action
Meeting, February 16, 2022 Mayor Bailey, Administrator Levitt, and Directors Costello and
Larson attended a meeting with Nikol Daniels, Dir. of Real
Estate Sales & Acquisitions U.S., to discuss updates at the
City’s Business Park. Ms. Daniels stated that CP Rail was
open to all discussions, including possible sale, of the
property they owned in the business park. She stated that
she and her team would create a development “Fact Sheet”
regarding their properties that could be shared at the City’s
website. She also spoke briefly about the CP Rail acquisition
of Kansas Southern to address any concerns regarding
increased rail traffic once the acquisition was complete.
Meeting, February 16, 2022 Assistant Mann met with the Cottage Grove Area Chamber of
Commerce Community Showcase committee and attended
the planning meeting.
Meeting, February 18, 2022 Director Larson and Assistant Mann met with Chamber
Executive Director Laurie Levine for a monthly update
meeting to discuss businesses in Cottage Grove
Meeting, February 18, 2022 Director Larson and Assistant Mann attended the virtual
Washington County Economic Development Advisory
Committee meeting. The focus of the meeting was to discuss
the planning and agenda for the upcoming MN Real Estate
Journal East Metro Development Summit on May 12.
Administrator Levitt and a representative from the NorthPoint
Development will be panelists for the Industrial area updates.
Meeting, February 22, 2022 Directors Costello and Larson, and Senior Planner Mrosla
attended a virtual meeting on 2-22 with a company
(Community Housing Corporation) who are interested in
building workforce and affordable senior housing.
Meeting, February 23, 2022 Assistant Mann met with the Cottage Grove Area Chamber of
Commerce Community Showcase committee and attended
the planning meeting.
Meeting, February 25, 2022 Director Larson met with the Trellis Co. They are interested in
building workforce and affordable senior housing. In
subsequent emails staff was informed that Trellis has been
working to secure a purchase agreement for a property at
80th and Hemingway Ave S. They are exploring with the staff
and consultants either TIF or a possible Business Subsidy.
Meeting, March 1, 2022
Director Larson met with Tyler Hilsabeck from the
Metropolitan Consortium of Community Developers to
discuss the Open to Business program and how we could get
more area businesses to access services being offered.
Office hours at City Hall are held the first Wednesday of each
month from 9am to noon.
Meeting, March 2, 2022 Director Larson and Assistant Mann had a virtual meeting
with Director Roland and consultants from the team at Ehlers
to review city TIF policies and discuss the Trellis affordable
senior housing project.
Meeting, March 3, 2022 Director Larson and Assistant Mann met with Tony Kruessel
regarding upgrade options for ICSC attendees.
Meeting, March 4, 2022 Administrator Levitt and Directors Burfeind and Larson met
with Rep. Jurgens to discuss the 100th Street Realignment,
the Shoppes at Cottage View, and the HERO Training Center
Bonding requests. Also discussed was the crossover on Hwy
61 and lighting near the River Oaks Golf Course along with
possible funding options/sources.
Meeting, March 9, 2022 Assistant Mann met with the Cottage Grove Area Chamber of
Commerce Community Showcase committee and attended
the planning meeting.
Meeting, March 9, 2022 Directors Larson and Dockter and Assistant Mann met with
Julianne Roller from Bird about potentially bringing their micro
mobility business to Cottage Grove.
