HomeMy WebLinkAbout4.1a Business Inquiry Business/Development Inquiry To: Economic Development Authority From: Gretchen Larson, Economic Development Director Jaime Mann, Assistant to the City Administrator Date: August 5, 2022 Activites that have taken place in the community that may have a potential impact on economic development activity: Discussion Staff Action July 6 Open to Business held office hours at City Hall July 11, Meeting Administrator Levitt provided a letter of support to Washington County for possible tax credits for the team at Trellis who are planning to build an affordable senior housing project in the city should they be able to secure the necessary tax credits. Staff also set up a virtual tour of one of their properties for the Mayor and Council. July 11, Meeting Administrator Levitt, Director Burfeind, Director Larson, and Assistant Mann met with Gordon Glendenning and Bill Kennedy to discuss the remaining land they own in the business park area. July 12, Meeting Director Larson and Assistant Mann met with representatives from CareerForce to discuss their programs and what resources are available through CareerForce. July 14, Groundbreaking - Oppidan and Trilogy Mayor Bailey, Members of the City Council, City Administrator Levitt and staff attending the Cottage Grove Apartments Groundbreaking Ceremony at 7689 Hardwood Ave S. July 15, Meeting Staff assisted with set up of the monthly Chamber Women in Business event. July 18 and 28, Meetings Administrator Levitt and Director Larson had two meetings with our DC lobbyists to discuss grant submittals for the 80th and 100th Street projects. The 80th Street project made it into the House Mini-Omnibus bill. We also had a call with Jennifer George, Legislative Attorney for NorthPoint to discuss our teams working together on an outreach strategy to contact members of the House and Senate. July and August, Meetings Ryan Co. Staff met virtually with the team from Ryan Co. to discuss development details for their project and ways to work together to perhaps offset costs. The team at Ryan Co. plan to request TIF assistance to bridge the funding gap. The next discussions will take place the week of August 15. July 21, Meetings Administrator Levitt, Director Larson, and Assistant Mann met with Chris Bohlman, Director of Marketing and Acquisitions with U-Haul to discuss possible locations in the city. They would prefer land along the Hwy 61 corridor, and staff provided Chris with additional information after the meeting for consideration with his team. July Director Larson had several email discussions with the owner of Extreme Sandbox, Randy Stenger. Randy would love to find a location in the city along Hwy 61. Several locations were discussed and talks with the City Administrator and staff are ongoing.
