HomeMy WebLinkAbout4.1a Business Inquiry Business/Development Inquiry To: Economic Development Authority From: Gretchen Larson, Economic Development Director Jaime Mann, Assistant to the City Administrator Date: November 4, 2022 Activites that have taken place in the community that may have a potential impact on economic development activity: Discussion Staff Action October 3 The City Administrator, Economic Development Director, and Assistant Mann met with Bird Mobility to discuss their services and how the use of their scooters could be added to city to increase options for transportation diversity. We agreed to stay in touch and will follow up with each other, as redevelopment in the city occurs, making this type of service perhaps more feasible. October 5 Tyler Hilsabeck hosted Open to Business office hours at City Hall from 9am – noon. October 5 – Oakwood Park Renovation Celebration Mayor ProTem Dennis and Councilmembers Olsen, and Thiede were on hand, along with State Senator Karla Bigham and city staff, to visit with the community at the Oakwood Park Renovation Celebration. October 7 – Ribbon Cutting & Grand Opening Mayor ProTem Dennis, Councilmember Olsen, and city staff joined the team at Design Plus Cabinets at 8599 W Point Douglas Rd, Suite 400 for their ribbon cutting and grand opening. Week of October 7 We continue to work with the team at MWF who are proposing to construct 120 units of workforce housing with a mix of 50 to 80 percent AMI and market rate on part of the Zywiec 40 property. We are discussing their request for TIF assistance and have introduced them to the team at Ehlers for an initial analysis. A City Council workshop will take place at 6:00 on December 7 to consider the TIF assistance request. Week of October 7 We are working with the team at 360 Real Estate who are proposing a redevelopment of the Cedarhurst property and want to also discuss options related to TIF assistance. October 12 – Ribbon Cutting & Grand Opening Mayor ProTem Dennis and city staff attended the Ribbon Cutting & Grand Opening for Bieter Eyecare located at 6936 Pine Arbor Drive S. October 27 Staff met with the owner of Tradehome Shoes who is looking to expand short-term at their current location and working on plans for a much larger expansion which will necessitate them moving from their current location. We have connected them to property owners in the business park, who while currently are planning to build to suit for lessees, may also be willing to sell their property. November 2 Staff was notified that the team at Endeavour had decided not to close on the property in the business park at 95th and Jamacia. There is a list of folks who were interested in purchasing the property should the deal not close, including the team at Forte Real Estate representation a beverage distribution company. Staff will be reaching out to all interested parties to allow them the opportunity to submit an offer. November 2 Tyler Hilsabeck hosted Open to Business office hours at City Hall from 9am – noon. November 2 Staff met with Tanya Pierson, with HVS who is working on the Hotel Market Study. The completed report will be ready the week of November 7. November 3 The 1.4-acre property adjacent to Kohls at 7781 Hardwood Ave. will become the home of a daycare facility. Site plans have been submitted to planning for review. November 3 Assistant Mann met with the Chamber Community Showcase committee for initial planning for the Showcase. The date for the 2023 event is Saturday, April 29. November 4 Economic Development Director Larson and Assistant Mann met with Nikol Daniels and Amy Andrews with CPR to discuss if they are willing to sell a portion of their parcels. There is significant interest in all the remaining property in the business park.
