Discussion Staff Action
January 18
The team at MWF who are proposing to construct 120 units of
workforce housing met with the City Council at a workshop to
discuss their need for TIF assistance. The council generally
agreed that TIF may be needed to assist with the project and
encouraged MWF to continue forward with their plans. The team
at Ehlers provided a range of TIF between $1.2M and $1.8M
depending upon final financing secured by MWF. We should
have more to report on if the plans will move forward next month.
January 24 Staff and the planning team met with representatives at Rocket
Carwash to discuss modifications to their proposed site plan
specifically setbacks, landscaping, and building materials. Rocket
plans to build on what is currently the Big O’ Tires site. After the
meeting we agreed that it appears that the plan will eventually
work out, such that they may be able to start construction later
this year.
January 31 Mayor ProTem Dennis, City Administrator Levitt, and city staff
were on hand to welcome Burn Boot Camp to the community at a
ribbon cutting ceremony. Burn Boot Camp is located at 8700 East
Point Douglas Rd. They offer personalized training for people at
all fitness levels.
February 1 Tyler Hilsabeck our Open to Business consultant met with staff to
discuss a possible partnership for our respective BRE programs.
The concept is proposed to be Field Trip Friday and the plan
would be to have the city, Chamber, and MCCD visit shopping
centers throughout the city to bring information about services
directly to the tenants. Once the basic details have been worked
out, staff will bring the concept to the EDA for review and
discussion at the March 14 meeting. If approved, we’d host our
first event in April.
February 3 Mayor Bailey, Councilmember Dennis, and city staff were on
hand to congratulate the team at Oasis Chiropractic & Wellness
Center on their 20th Anniversary.
