Re: Amendment to Resolution Adopting the 1998 Pay Plan for Non-Represented
Employees
BACKGROUND
City Councii recentiy approved the 1998 pay plan for non-represented empioyees.
However, there is a need for one correction and two changes.
DISCUSSION
The correction is minor in nature. The Recreation Coordinator position was included
in the resolution, but was accidentally left off Attachment B. Ttie position is now
shown on Attachment B as Pay Grade XII, Step B.
The first change is for an Administrative Secretary position. This change will not be
effective until May 1, 1998. We currentiy have two Administrative Secretary
positions. We have an anticipated retirement, which wili be effective April 30, 1998.
We are recommending that the vacated position be placed one pay grade lower than
it is currently at, so that it is in the same grade (XIV) as the Secretary to the Director
of Public Safety. These two positions wili have the titie of Administrative Secretary.
The other Administrative Secretary position, which is in Administration, will remain in
pay grade XII I.
The second change is in regards to an Ice Arena position. Severai months ago, Ice
Arena Manager Dean Mulso made some changes in job duties and responsibilities
for the positions of Assistant Arena Manager and Night Supervisor. Because of
these changes, the Night Supervisor was moved to days, performing maintenance
duties, and the Assistant Arena Manager is managing night and weekend arena
operations. Tnere is no change in pay ranges recommended. However, it is
recommended that the Night Supeniisor title be changed to Arena Maintenance
Technician. (This position is in pay grade XIII.)

RECOMMENDATION
Approve the Resolution Amending Resolution No. 98-09 Adopting 1998 Pay Plan for
Employees not covered by a Labor Contract for the City of Cottage Grove.

RESOLUTION AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 98-09,
ADOPTING 1998 PAY PLAN AND BENEFITS FOR EMPLOYEES
NOT COVERED BY A LABOR CONTRACT FOR THE CITY OF COTTAGE GROVE
WHEREAS, on February 4, 1998, the Mayor and City Council adopted Resolution No.
98-09, the 1998 pay plan for non-represented empioyees; a�d
WHEREAS, some minor modifications are needed for ciarification purposes; and
WHEREAS, effective April 2, 1998, the following pay pian for non-represented
employees be amended as follows:
ARTICLE I:
PAY SCHEDULE: In Section 2, change ice Arena Night Supervisor titie to Ice
Arena Maintenance Technician, and change Secretary to Director of Public
Safety title to Administrative Secretary.
ARTICLE III:
OVERTIME: Delete Secretary to Director of Pubiic Safety from Section 2.
ATfACHMENT B:
Add the Recreation Coordinator position at Pay Grade XII, Step B, New Salary
$32,407. Change ice Arena Night Supervisor title to Ice Arena Maintenance
Technician. Change Secretary to Director of Public Safety title to Administrative
Secretary. Delete one Administrative Secretary position from pay grade XIII and
move to pay grade XIV.
NOW, THERFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Cottage Grove,
County of Washington, State of Minnesota, that this Resolution No. 98-XXX amend
Resolution 98-09, Resolution Adopting 1998 Pay Pian and Benefits for Employees Not
Covered by a Labor contract for the City of Cottage Grove. This resolution shall become
effective April 2, 1998, and shail remain in effect until amended by the City Council.
