This year, Preservation Week begins on Monday, 11 May and runs through Sunday, 17 May. The theme is "Preservation Begins at Home." Traditionally, the mayor and council issue a Preservation Week proclamation -- the recommended text of the proclamation is attached. If possible, we would like to bave the proclamation made at the council meeting on 15 April. Other Preservation Week events include the tenYh annual "Preservationist of the Year Award," a workshop session of the Advisory CommiYtee on Historic Preservation devoted to preservation issues in the 21 st century, and a new Ciey Hall history exhibit in cooperation wiCh the Washington County Historical Society. The centerpiece of Historic Preservation Week 1998 will be the first ever tour of historic sites, sponsored by the Cottage Grove ACHP and the Newport Heritage Preservation Commission, on Sunday, 17 May.
