A bid opening date was set for Thursday, May 14, 1998 at 11:00, but was postponed until Tuesday, May 19, at 8:00 a.m. For this reason, we cannot provide you with a staff recommendation or a copy of the bids at this time. This information will be provided to you in the Tuesday packet. �.c fi'T�TiTr•7c7�1,�1•I•1 i,1 To: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members Ryan Schroeder, City Administrator From: John McCool, Senior Planner Date: May 19, 1998 Subject: Pine Forest 3 Addition — Bid Award INTRODUCTION The bid opening for the construction of public improvements for Pine Forest 3 Addition was held at 8:00 a.m. on May 19, 1998. A totai of eight (8) bids were received. DISCUSSION The City Engineer has verified the bid amounts and found Hydrocon, Inc. was the contractor having the lowest bid in the amount of $326,340.74. The City Engineer's preliminary cost estimate is $370,000.00. Listed below are the bid results fot the three lowest bidders of eight bids received: RECOMMENDATION Adopt the attached resolution awarding the contract to the low bidder, Hydrocon, inc., in the total amount of $326,340.74. RESOLUTION NO. 98-XXX RESOLUTION AWARDING BID FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS FOR PINE FOREST 3 RD ADDITION WHEREAS, the City Council on April 15, 1998, approved the construction plans and specifications for the construction of the public improvements for the Pine Forest 3'" Addition project and set a bid date of Thursday, May 14, 1998 at 11:00 AM. C.D.S.T., City Hall; and WHEREAS, an advertisement for bids for the improvement was published in the "Washington County Builetin" and "Construction Bulletin"; and WHEREAS, the bid opening date was postponed until Tuesday, May 19, 1998 at 8:00 A.M. C.D.S.T., in the Council Chambers of Cottage Grove City Hall; and WHEREAS, pursuant to an advertisement for bids for the improvement, bids were received, opened, and tabulated according to law, and bids listed in Exhibit "A" were received and complied with the advertisement; and WHEREAS, it appears that Hydrocon, Inc. is the lowest responsibie bidder; and WHEREAS, it is the recommendation of the City Engineer that the contract be awarded to Hydrocon, Inc. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Cottage Grove, County of Washington, State of Minnesota, as follows: 1. The proper City Officials are hereby authorized and directed to enter into a contract, as provided by law, with Hydrocon, Inc. for the public improvements according to the construction pians and specifications therefore approved by the City Council in the amount of $326,340.74. 2. The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to retum forthwith to all bidders the deposits made with their bids, except that the deposits of the successfui bidder and the next lowest bidder shail be retained until a contract has been signed.
