MEMORANUM
TO: Honorable Mayor snd City Council Members
Ryan Schroeder, City Administrator
FROM: Kim L.indquist, Community Development Director
DATE: October 2, 1998
RE: CITYVISION 21 Workshop
In 1996, the City Council directed staff to begin a community-based visioning process.
A community meeting was held on September 25, 1996, to introduce the project to
residents and to solicit members for the Task Force. The first meeting of the appointed
19-member Task Force occurred on December 7, 1997. The group met over the
following 14 months and the number of active members dropped to 16.
The final report was approved at the February meeting and the Council accepted the
report at their March 4, 1998 meeting. At the meeting, the Council discussed having a
joint workshop with the Task Force. At the Aprii 15, 1998, Council workshop, Task
Force members met witn the Council and briefly discussed portions of the report. The
Councii explained they had not had an opportunity to discuss the Report among
themselves, which they would like to do, prior to further discussion with the Task Force.
On April 18, the Council had an ail-day workshop where the CITYVISION 21 document
was briefly discssed. Information given to planning staff was that the final Report as
previously submitted to the Council would remain in its original form. In July, the final
c:olor copy was sent to the Council, Task Force members, EDA, Planning Commission,
and Park Board as well as copies placed at the library and in the City Hall for pubiic
viewing. Please bring that copy with you to the Council workshop meeting.
