Re: 1999 Pay Plan for Non-Represented Employees
I have been in the process of reviewing pay ranges for non-represented city
positions. As in the past two years, I am comparing the top of pay ranges with
metro area cities of population 20,000-40,000. The target is that positions should
be at 97% of market.
The 1999 budget includes funds for a 3% annual base wage increase for all
positions. At this time, we recommend maintaining the 3% increase. Discussion
at the workshop include a summary of where we now compare in the market, and
whether any positions have fallen behid the market. As you know, it was our
hope to keep the positions at 97% of market on an on-going basis, so that we are
not faced with having to make larger adjustments in the future.
City Administrator Schroeder and I will provide a verbal report on the status of
the pay plan during a workshop on December 2. It is anticipated that, the final
pay plan would appear on ths agenda for the December 16 Council meeting, so
that pay increases can be processed for January 1. We hope to have the
decision regarding the police arbitration the first week of December.
